Moisture in the air means moisture on the surface you're painting. Wet surfaces are not ideal for painting and you may find that the overall results are not as good as you hoped. Let's dive into the details of how high humidity can negatively affect a paint job.

When you're dealing with high humidity, surfaces tend to dry slowly. Mold will eventually grow through the new layer of paint and you will need to clean the area and paint again.

With most paint types, at high humidity, the water has a hard time evaporating, resulting in a thick, gel-like coating. Eventually, when the humidity level drops, you will find that this consistency dries out and takes on a wavy texture, and you may not be satisfied with the results due to brushing in high humidity causing it not to dispose properly.

However, it is strongly advised not to paint with humidity above 85% as the paint will be difficult to dry.

It's also a good idea to run a dehumidifier in the room for a few hours after washing the walls and before painting.

As the day progresses into the late afternoon, humidity increases as temperatures cool, and there may be a risk of condensation on freshly applied coatings. Over time, it's best to stop painting.
